Natural rubber & Synthetic rubber
During the 1980’s increased awareness of HIV / AIDS led to a massive use of gloves to protect against this dreadful disease. Repeated exposure to latex led however to a significant increase in what were believed to be specifically and only latex-related allergies. This resulted in changes in legislation and a higher quality of products, like powder free gloves and the development of synthetic alternatives.
To avoid “latex allergy” many hospitals switched to synthetic alternatives. This switch resulted in an increase of allergy cases. How is this possible?
When the Mexican flu arose, the industry expected another increase in the use of gloves and created due to the absence of a real problem an overcapacity. This overcapacity together with the economic turmoil resulted in the development of cheaper gloves of a thinner and inferior quality.
To manufacture these thinner, and therefore cheaper, synthetic gloves an increased quantity and variety of (new) chemicals is required. It is this increase of chemicals that creates an upsurge of new generation allergies to the supposedly ‘allergy-free’ nitrile, vinyl or neoprene gloves.
Repeated exposure to these chemicals the likelihood of developing allergies. It seems nitrile, vinyl and neoprene were not the best solution.
The allergy problem was merely abated, and as reported allergy cases are increasing world-wide.
But we do make the difference with the innovative purifying MPXX™ technology which allows us to claim the cleanest gloves on the market focusing on maximum protection and ultimate prevention against all types of allergies.
Allergic reactions can be caused by either allergens in natural rubber latex or chemical residues of the chemicals used in the production process of gloves, regardless the type of material. Both natural rubber latex allergens as well as the chemical residues can cause allergy and are therefore a threat to the healthcare professional’s career as well as the public health. With thousands of potentially harmful chemicals being introduced into the workplace each year, it is important to reduce the exposure wherever possible.
This is a sound proof why MPXX™ gloves is the most sustainable choice. MPXX™ is able to dramatically diminish not only NRL allergens to unquantifiable levels but also chemical residues to undetectable levels. It deals with both allergy problems type I and IV, still enabling users all over the world to fully benefit from the different qualities of natural or synthetic rubber gloves.
